Public Breastfeeding Awareness Project 2014!
Last week (August 1-7) was World Breastfeeding Week, and I had the honor of joining Public Breastfeeding Awareness Project (#PBAP2014) founder Leilani Rogers and over 50 other photographers to help create images of women breastfeeding in public. This should be normal. Breastfeeding in public really shouldn't need a special project to help normalize the idea of naturally feeding a hungry baby. But the reality is breastfeeding in public isn't always seen as the norm, and it's not always seen as natural. This year, I was able to photograph several moms at the Cedar Rapids Public Library, as well as moms from the Beloved Bonds Breastfeeding Mommas at the Iowa City Ped Mall. Both locations were perfect, and left me wishing I had more and more beautiful mommas and their nurslings to photograph! Next year, I hope to do breastfeeding mini-sessions at several locations in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. Thank you to all the moms who participated in the project!
