For quite some time I've been anticipating being able to photograph births. After experiencing the amazing miracle of childbirth myself three times, it seemed like such a natural step to begin capturing those beautiful moments in photographs for mothers, fathers, and babies to enjoy for a lifetime! But, with those three young children, it has been somewhat impractical for me to start being "on call". Now, as our youngest turns two and after having the opportunity to photograph my first birth, I am excited to begin offering birth photography in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area. phot Stylistically, I would say that there is definitely a photojournalistic edge to my birth photography.  While I have a fine art background and appreciate the beauty of each photograph I take, my main emphasis is to capture the emotion and events of your birth story.   If you decide you'd like me there, I would want to talk with you in more detail about what your birth plans are, what kind of photos you are especially hoping for, and other details to make sure we're on the same page. So here's how it works. You check with me about photographing your birth. I take a look at my calendar up front and tell you what you can expect my availability to be around your due date, and I answer any questions you might have. If you decide to book me for your birth, I would want to have a conversation with you about what type of birth you are anticipating (home? hospital?), expectations, how close and personal you want me, etc. Then, when you *think* you might be in labor, give me a call to give me a heads-up so I can start making arrangements. I would photograph the later stages of labor (ideally), the birth/delivery, and the first hour or so of the baby's life.  In a week or less, you would receive a proof cd of nearly all the pictures I took, and from that cd you could choose the ones that you wanted for your final cd.  The photos you order are fully retouched and edited, and given to you as high-resolution files on a final cd which is labeled for printing.  You have permission to reprint photos wherever and whenever you want!  You would pay NOTHING until I deliver your proof cd. Honestly, my rate will change as I gain experience, but it is currently a $250 "session fee" plus just $5 per photo that you order! Look around at birth photographers and you'll find this is a tremendous deal!
